Government mobile phone emergency test date

Published: 22 Aug 25

The UK Government will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alerts system at 3pm on Sunday 7 September 2025. The Emergency Alerts system is designed to warn people of life- threatening situations, such as extreme weather, flooding or fires. The test is part of the Government’s Resilience Action Plan to ensure the system works effectively and that the public is familiar with it. During the test, mobile phones will vibrate and make a loud siren sound for roughly ten seconds, even if they are set to silent. A message will also appear on phone screens, making it clear the alert is only a test.
